the perfect riding boot

I have been on the search for the perfect riding boot for well over a year. My problem lays in the fact that I am not quite convinced that anyone can make a riding boot quite as perfectly as Frye. Recently I found this Nine West boot that I think might make the grade and thankfully it is half the price of my favorite Frye's.

See? Frye boots are just beautiful. On a different note, what do you think of black boots? I am still on the fence...

review to come...

I would have to say that CSN stores has been one of my favorite finds in the blogging world. They have over 200 online stores where you can find everything from a platform bed to fitness equipment to cookware! I know it sounds lazy but one stop shopping can be amazing.

CSN asked me to do a review of one of their products, I am choosing a Le Creuset stock pot. I can't wait for it to get here so I can try this Parmigiano Pumpkin Soup recipe!

I love this look as seen on the Sartorialist. I love it even more because I can tweak it to my closet constraints.

because fall is here

via good life eats
I don't know about everyone else but it has been very apparent where I live that Fall is here to stay. When I lived just a little further south Fall was always exciting. Now that I practically live in the Arctic circle fall brings the dread of the "W" word and cold gray days.

In an effort to ignore the looming "W" and embrace Fall, I think I should make these pumpkin cinnamon rolls, because nothing says Fall like pumpkin food.

emerson made

I love this skirt from Emerson Made. It has pockets, who doesn't want a skirt with pockets?

a way to be fancy

Fancy Nancy and I would get along famously. All that glitters is gold, at least figuratively speaking. Which brings me to the subject at hand re-purposing fanciness for more fanciness, Martha is brilliant. Brooch Ribbon necklace, love it.

You know you are getting old/growing up when you have a dream laundry room. But this laundry room makes my heart beat faster.

lovely library

Friend Martha forwarded me pictures of this lovely library. It spurred a conversation about books at cabins/vacation homes. Nice idea, don't you think?

framed art inspiration

A couple of years ago I was visiting an old friend and noticed she had a framed copy of the New Yorker on her mantle. Her boyfriend had recently moved from NYC so it had some sentimental value. In the next year my husband and I will be moving from our current town. I have been looking for some kind of art work that represents our town, one that when we look we can think back to our time here.

Our community sends out a monthly publication that details the events of the month. I have liked several of the covers in the last few months but none of them have been just right. This was the cover of this last month, it just might be the winner.

I am saving this cover for framing unless the coming months bring one I like better. I love inexpensive wall art.

planning meals, again...

via cooking light
I have been trying out different methods of meal planning. I started with monthly menus, then I went to weekly menus, more recently I have been trying the clear the pantry method. I am moving on to a hybrid option of the monthly planning and the clear the pantry method. Here is my first attempt at the hybrid plan.

September Planned:
BBQ Chicken sandwiches
I have been wanting to try a homemade BBQ sauce but friends tell me homemade can't touch the store bought stuff. Any thoughts on homemade vs. store bought?
Black bean burgers
Chicken Philly's
Empanadas
Falafel

General clear the pantry options:
Costa Rican rice
Burritos
Hamburgers
Pesto Pasta
Quesadillas
Homemade pizza

cabin deck

via Design Mom
Our family cabin is way up high in the mountains, about 8,000 feet above sea level, I believe. Outside of the cabin there is a nice large wood deck. It is great to have. Unfortunately due to the large amount of snow fall in the mountains the deck takes a lot of upkeep. Often in the spring part of it will have collapsed from the weight of the snow. When I saw this min-century modern outdoor space I was inspired. Sure a wood deck is nice but a concrete outdoor area would require less upkeep. I will have to throw the idea at my Dad. Maybe we can incorporate it into our eventual rebuild designs.

squiggles and dots

This bed ensemble is amazing, it takes someone with a trained eye to put these together and make them work.

My little sister's friend is getting engaged. Last week we were browsing the internet for engagement ring styles and came across this beauty. Gorgeous, don't you think?

I am always intrigued by those who can make white feel chic rather than plain and stark. I need some of their brilliance.

cabins on my mind

I have cabins on the mind this week, sorry. I have almost convinced my Mom (I still have a long ways to go with my Dad) to get new bedding for our cabin. I love the way Stephmodo decorated the rooms of her France house, I want to use this picture in my cabin inspiration book.

My family wants to rebuild our cabin eventually so from time to time I like to imagine the different things we could do. One thing we must do is to have a big window wall like this one. Amazing.

The other thing I would like to do is to have one room with bunk beds everywhere for all my nieces and nephew(s). Add guard rails to these bunks and you have perfection.

brighton, utah

Brighton "winter's front yard"

I have been working on a new blog. We are renting our family cabin in Brighton, Utah so we wanted a nice website/blog to advertise it. I am quite proud of the end product and excited that I learned a few blogging tricks along the way!

Putting together the site has made me homesick though, I love Brighton and the mountains and the cabin. I can't wait to go back in December!
